Antaranga is a non-profit socio-cultural organization formed by Bengalis who live in East Delhi. The organization aims to create awareness about the rich cultural heritage of East India amongst the larger community, help integrate members of the local communities by providing a platform to celebrate Bengali festivals and social events and give back to the larger society by participating in charitable causes and volunteer activities to assist the local populace.
Antaranga has an interesting history and an enchanting journey. On 22nd August 1993, some members of Bengali community who has just started residing in the few newly inhabited group housing society apartments in the Mayur Vihar Phase-1 area came together and decided to set up an organization with the objective of promoting the social and cultural need of Bengali communities in the area. The organisation was named Antaranga – aptly meaning 'Closeness'. These residents were mainly from Samachar Apartments, Vasant Apartments, Manas Apartments, etc. which were amongst the first few group housing societies completed in the area at that time and residents started settling here from the late 80s and early 90s. In the year 1997 'Antaranga' took a giant formal leap and was registered as a 'Society' under the Delhi Societies Registration Act.
Antaranga celebrates prominent Bengali festivals of Durgapuja, Kalipuja, Saraswati puja and Bengali New Year ‘পয়লা বৈশাখ’ (Poila Boishakh). From celebrating festivities, the activities of Antaranga has expanded gradually as more and more members joined in and pooled in resources and time. During its span of existence the organization has been carrying out various social activities i.e. blood donation camps, health check-up camps cleanliness drives in local community park and shopping area. Its volunteer outreach has extended to cover charitable works like donating cycle rickshaws for garbage disposal and financial assistance to meritorious poor students of the local Government School. The social and charitable activities have expended over the time and have become the thrust area of Antaranga.
The Durga puja and Kali puja celebrations are held in the DDA Playground adjacent to Mayur Vihar Extension Metro Station. The celebrations are the one of the most popular mega events in Mayur Vihar, East Delhi area. Over the years, by providing a platform for local cultural activities, Antaranga has developed and nurtured many local budding talents. During the puja celebrations Antaranga provides opportunity to various local performing artistes as well as the renowned artistes from other parts of India.
Antaranga is organizing the biggest event of the year - "Durgotsav 2016" on October 6-11, 2016
at the DDA Playground adjacent to Mayur Vihar Extension Metro Station. Accompanying the "Durgotsav 2016" is East Delhi's one of its kind cultural extravaganza showcasing the India’s rich Cultural Heritage through traditional and contemporary dances, music and other forms of Arts from different regions of India. This is Antaranga’s 24th year of Durga Puja celebrations.
To promote a feeling of togetherness, Antaranga is a membership based organization. We have open communication with all our members. Antaranga is built and nurtured by its members and all its activities are based on the initiative, time and good heartedness of its members. All our members are volunteers of goodwill.
Also accompanying the "Durgotsav 2016" shall be Antaranga’s annual Souvenir, a much sought after publication for adorning your shelf in the drawing room. Antaranga Souvenir is published through voluntary donations in the form of adverts and inserts, for which we depend on kind initiative of its members and volunteers.
